Meet Micaela Ezra…You may ask why we share the same surname…Well thats because she’s my amazing big sister.
From as far back as I can remember Micaela has always been incredibly talented in every field she endeavours. A creative ball of genius that the world needs to know about. From Illustration work, to fashion design, to art, custom prints, to textiles and home-wares not to mention event planning – recently creating her own Wedding which blew every guest away!
Moving to New York in 2006 Micaela “was offered a design position at contemporary American label, Cynthia Steffe. In 2009 Micaela moved on to become the Creative Director and head designer for three collections – Sine New York, Laila and Parameter. During this period she was involved in collaborations with Anthropoloogie, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Saks.” Micaela continues to live in New York where she now spends her time working on her illistrations, textile and homewares designs..
Thinking back to the earlier years, prior to her big move.. Micaela was nearing the end of her program at East Sydney TAFE Studying fashion, and I was only at the start of my Interior Architecture course…We would spend hours in the ‘den’ (The basement room of our Sydney home) as I called it, both working on our assignments..Myself making models, drawing plans, elevations, sections and perspectives.. Micaela with her buckets of dyes, and array of fabrics.. we would find ourselves swamped in our study – ‘literally’. Micaela would experiment with making her own felt and lace, she would find objects from nature, shells and tree branches and spend all hours of the night working away to create some sort of marvel, dedicated to finding perfection in everything she did.
Hand making her own lace whilst studying fashion in Sydney..”Micaela Revived the classic tradition of lace with unique modern technique, ACTUALLY CREATING the fabric herself, by constructing a lattice work of threads between thousands of shards of material”
These wearable fabrics were used in her range which made its debut in Fashion Week 2006.
I recently spent the summer with my sister where we marveled over artwork and textile prints she made/sketched years ago.. hand drawings in pencil, watercolour and ink never seem to bore me, I am blown away and find myself begging her to let me frame them all for my own home.
Some of her more recent work has been for Motivational Speaker and Life Coach Gabby Bernstein where she has used watercolour and graphics to convey beautiful quotes. I LOVE them all!
Micaela is Currently living in New york and is commissioned to illustrate books and all of her drawings and prints are available for sale and exhibition.
